Post 18/40 - Nationwide 'Invest'

1984. Joe Sedelmaier was the best director of commercials bar none, maker of the funniest spots ever, most famously ‘Where’s the beef?’ for Wendy’s. So, for our first big campaign for Nationwide’s Flex Account, we wanted him to take on the High Street banks.

The line for this campaign: ‘We always remember whose money it is’ struck the right note as banks were able to charge customers whatever they felt like. The print campaign was so ferocious, the government had to create a new Banking Charter.
